Sanyo Brand History

Japanese manufacturer of various electronics, household and climate technology. The corporation, which began with a small wiring plant that earned in Osaka, on November 23, 1947, today has hundreds of subsidiaries, employing hundreds of thousands of employees.

However, the ambitious plans of Toshio Iue, the founder of the company, were clear from the very beginning, it is no accident that "San Yo" is translated from Japanese as "three oceans". He managed to achieve a lot - now SANYO is on the Fortune 500 list.

But it all started with generator lamps for bicycles. In the beginning, the young company was constantly harassed by various minor and major troubles. But Toshio's perseverance and patience really knew no bounds. By 1949 these lamps were produced by thousands and began to be exported abroad.

In 1950, the company acquired the final name, used to this day - SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. Nowadays it is a parent company of a huge concern known as SANYO Electric Group.

In 1952, the company's first radio receiver appeared. For the first time in the history of Japanese electronics, plastic was used for its hull. Further more. For only a decade, SANYO has mastered the production of TVs, stereo systems, various household and climate equipment - it was decided to adhere to the principle of "everything at once".

Separate mention deserves batteries and batteries, which received much attention. As a result, in many areas it was possible to achieve the leading positions. However, not much of the produced SANYO bore a proud label "the first in the world." To this no one aspired. It just took a new idea, already used by competitors, and was carried out in its own way, more or less successfully. A sort of consumer goods in the Japanese manner.

The development of the company is very fast. In 1979, the first personal computer SANYO appears. There is an active development towards "green" technologies, in which considerable success has been achieved. So, in 1990, a plane that used solar panels SANYO for the first time, in the history of such technology, crossed America.

Continuing to adhere to the same multidisciplinary approach, the company starts the production of projectors, mobile phones (the division in 2008 moved to Kyocera), digital cameras, navigators. The structure of SANYO starts to get complicated, there are many subsidiaries.

Since December 21, 2009, SANYO was absorbed by Panasonic Corp. The transaction amount exceeded 4.5 billion US dollars. Negotiations were conducted almost a year.

Absorption was preceded by several years of financial turmoil that persecuted SANYO and led to significant job cuts. Apparently the excessive versatility of the corporation has become too heavy for her, since it was becoming more difficult to manage such a complex structure.

SANYO's headquarters are in Osaka, Japan (Osaka, Japan).
